PORTRAIT WORK: Thirty years as a commissioned portrait artist gives Lauren’s paintings and photographs a sense of bold celebration and her skill captures the beauty of the total human being - body, mind and spirit. Her brush strokes generate such warmth of expression and intimacy, that she is frequently complimented on the movement, aliveness and flow of her work. Indeed, she is often told that the portraits of those she paints are “so alive” and “ seem just about to speak.” Her background in recreational therapy prepared her for the portrait work she has done with many children grieving the loss of a loved one, in a Hospice Bereavement Program.

A note from Lauren. “Early childhood found me standing on a chair in my grandfather’s darkroom in Toronto, as his fingers stirred the baths of developer under the mysterious red lights. As if by magic, faces appeared on the sheets of paper before us.
Consequently portraiture became my passion and for years I developed my skills, hoping to capture what I saw in the faces around me. I longed to find the soul of my subject and reproduce it with paint, pastel or on film. Though I did study briefly with other artists at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and in Europe as a young woman, my Art and Photography have been a primarily spiritual journey. Marked by prayer, meditation with a commitment to “practice makes perfect”, I believe that real perfection belongs solely to God and still remains illusive, as I imagine it does for most artists.”
